1SG First Sergeant 

First Sergeant (Retired) Denard McAlister has served as Army Instructor for the Hickory High School JROTC  program since 2018 and now instructor of Statesville High School Greyhounds. Prior to leaving active duty, 1SG McAlister served as Geospatial Detachment Sergeant Major for the 5th Engineer Detachment at Fort Shafter, Hi.

1SG McAlister served in the Army for 23 ½ years. While serving in the Army, 1SG McAlister served in every leadership position in the military at various levels and echelons. His overseas assignment and deployments include, Korea, Kuwait, and Iraq.

Some of his awards include the Meritorious Service Medals, Army Commendation & Army Achievement Medals, Iraq Campaign Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. 1SG McAlister is extremely passionate about making a difference with today’s youth.
